Firmly entrenched back in Te Tai Tokerau – Kaitaia where I was born after spending a significant and formative time of my life in Tāmaki. I initially trained as a Primary School teacher, before securing a role as a Project Coordinator for the Māori Youth Project (NZAF) in 1992. While employed by NZAF, my now husband and I became parents of seven children, so I became a stay-at-home parent for a few years. When our youngest child became more independent I returned to work within the Māori Health Directorate Counties Manukau District Health Board in various roles over 12 years. Since returning to Kaitaia in 2017, alongside my fulltime role in Public Health I also serve my whānau, hapū, iwi, and community in a number of other trust boards.
Giving back to Burnett Foundation Aotearoa is a personal choice, as I was still a young man when first employed there; the experiences and relationships forged during that time continue to shape me now.
