Life membership announcement - Joe Rich
13 December 2024
On behalf of the Board, I am pleased to share a special announcement. As many of you know, Joe Rich will soon be stepping down from his role as Chief Executive, after serving the Foundation, and our wider communities with distinction for over 13 years.
In recognition of his dedication, compassion, and the respect he has earned from staff, the Board, and the wider rainbow communities, the Board has unanimously decided to honour Joe Rich with a Lifetime Membership of the Burnett Foundation Aotearoa.
Reflecting on his time at the Foundation, Joe shared: "It has been the greatest privilege of my life to lead this extraordinary organisation. I am deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together—from expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of our communities, to securing more sustainable funding, and rebranding as Burnett Foundation Aotearoa to better reflect our broader health mission. None of this would have been possible without the passion and commitment of our staff, volunteers, and partners."
Joe’s tenure has been marked by significant achievements and a commitment to the organisation’s mission and values. He has led with integrity, fostered important connections within our communities, and helped steer the Foundation through periods of growth, challenge, and positive change. His leadership included advocating successfully for public funding of PrEP, enabling better HIV prevention access, and leading engagement with politicians to achieve bi-partisan support for continued investment and Government partnership in the HIV response.
As Joe transitions to the next chapter, this Lifetime Membership is our way of acknowledging his service and ensuring he remains connected to the Foundation’s future work and achievements. We invite all members, and our communities, to join us in thanking Joe for his contributions and in celebrating this well-deserved honour.
Thank you for your continued support of the Burnett Foundation Aotearoa. Together, we stand stronger in our mission and our commitment to Aotearoa’s rainbow communities.
Ngā mihi,
Jim Stuart-Black
(Chair on behalf of the Board)
