New mpox cases in Tāmaki Makarau Auckland
10 January 2024
There are seven new cases of mpox (monkeypox) in Aotearoa. The outbreak is currently centred in Tāmaki Makarau Auckland but given the amount of local travel over the holidays, the whole country should be vigilant.
Common symptoms of mpox include:
- New lesions, skin changes, spots, or rashes;
- Pain, discomfort, or bleeding in your butt;
- Fever;
- Headaches;
- Swollen lymph nodes;
- Muscle aches;
- Chills or tiredness.
Our communities should check for symptoms, get tested if necessary, and book a consultation to get protected and help stop the spread.
