How to have oral sex (sucking dick or ass)

Oral sex, also called a blow job, is a pretty common first step for guys when they’re starting on their sexual journey.

If you’re the person receiving oral sex or having your ass eaten then it’s courteous to shower beforehand or give your dick (including the foreskin if you’re uncut) or anus a rinse/wipe.

There’s usually less prep involved than anal sex and many people experiment with this before moving on to other types of sex.

This oral sex 101 focuses mostly on sucking dick or giving head but we’ll also talk about eating ass or a rim job.

How to suck dick or give head like a pro Spit or swallow? What does cum taste like? So what's rimming? Do all guys like oral sex?

Sucking dick or eating ass isn’t a high-risk activity for HIV because the lining of the mouth is strong, and saliva (spit) also contains protective properties. It’s hard to infect the skin inside your mouth. But it is high-risk for acquiring other STIs.

If you’re engaging in any form of sex, you should be testing regularly.

How to suck dick or give head like a pro:

  • Use your lips and tongue on the dick, try to avoid the teeth. Use your tongue on the underside of the dick head. Gentle suction and licking while you get a good rhythm going will make your partner feel great.

  • Plenty of spit will make the blowjob feel amazing. Have some water nearby to keep you hydrated.

  • Communicate with your partner, you can prompt them with questions like “Does this feel good?” or ask them “How do you like it? Where do you want my mouth?”

  • Remember the balls – they love getting attention too.

  • Take it easy and relax, remember that it’s meant to be fun and pleasurable for you and your partner.

Spit or swallow?

You’ve probably heard this question before. If someone cums in your mouth, then you can either swallow the load (the cum) or spit it out onto a tissue or towel.

It’s completely up to you, or you can choose to not have it in your mouth at all.

If you’re receiving head then let your partner know when you’re about to climax, or cum so they can decide where they want you to cum.

If you’re giving head, you can also let your partner know before they’re close what your preference is.

If your partner comes into your mouth, it does increase the risk of HIV, as HIV is in cum. Either spit or swallow quickly, as it’s the length of time the cum is in your mouth that’s the risky part.

Having a healthy mouth reduces the risk of acquiring HIV. Bleeding gums, mouth ulcers, and throat infections make it easier for HIV and STIs to be transmitted. Flossing or vigorous brushing is better after the big date – not before – because it can break the skin on the gums. For fresh breath try a light brushing followed by chewing gum, mints, or mouthwash.

What does cum taste like?

Semen or cum can taste a variety of different ways, from sweet to salty to sour. It’s affected by diet, alcohol or tobacco intake, and of course hygiene.

There’s also no way to know what a load will taste like until you’re, well, tasting it.

Some people love the taste of cum and others can’t stand it. Each to their own and you’ll figure out where you are on the spectrum in time.

Load:

This is what guys tend to call their cum. For example, if a guy says he’s got a ‘5-day load’ he hasn’t cum in that time and you can expect a big one.

So what's rimming?

As we mentioned in our Anal Sex 101 on why anal sex feels good [Anal Sex 101b] the lining of the anus is quite sensitive and can bring a lot of pleasure. If you want to give it a go, just give the outside of the anus a lick slowly and then you can progress into playing with the ass like you would use a finger.

Rimming an ass is also a high-risk environment for STI transmission, and it can also lead to gut infections like Shigella.

Do all guys like oral sex?

Oral sex, and rimming, is a big turn-on for some guys and many guys do enjoy it. But like with any other sexual activity, everyone has their preferences and what turns them on.

Some people prefer to receive or give. Others like to do both, even at the same time which is a position called 69.

Communicate with your sexual partners about what they like and what you like, and you’ll be away to having some great times soon enough.
