Let’s talk about sex, bb: Bareback sex

If you’ve seen gay porn or ended up on the other side of Twitter or Reddit 😉😉, you’d have most likely come across bareback (bb) content (i.e. anal sex without using condoms).

In November 2022, we did a fun little survey on our Instagram asking gay and bi guys who follow us on Instagram about their porn preferences. The majority (75%) of participants find bareback porn “okay" or even quite like it, while 21% of participants exclusively watch bareback content.

Let’s be real. It’s no surprise that a lot of us watch bareback porn and know how hot it is watching a dick slide in and out of a bussy, especially when you’re masturbating.

According to Pornhub’s 2022 Insight, “Gay – Bareback” is an increasingly viewed category in Aotearoa New Zealand and is 31% more popular here than around the world.

NB: If you’re in the 3% who find bareback sex a massive turn off, that’s okay too! Your perspective is equally valid.

Life Imitates Art

There is sooo much bareback content out there—so much so that porn viewers might even come to believe that condomless sex is the norm, according to research.

For men who have sex with men (MSM), bareback porn can impact the viewers’ behaviour, making them more inclined to have bareback sex.

Playing Safe

We’re not here to be a moral compass on what porn tickles your fancy - as long as it’s legal and consensual, go crazy. It’s just fantasy after all.

We want you to take these steamy 🔥 sexy fun times into real-life too, but that doesn’t mean we need to do as porn stars do in their 3-minute cut downs on Pornhub.

By now you've hopefully figured out that porn usually features the most unrealistic bodies and biggest dicks among us. But we also need to remember what else they cut out — conversations around condoms, the daily PrEP taking, regular HIV and STI testing, bussy preparation, and the consent conversations that happen before and throughout filming.

For a long time, bareback sex was automatically equated to unsafe sex because condoms were the only way for people to protect themselves and their partner(s) from HIV. But nowadays, it doesn’t need to be the risk it once was because we have alternative prevention methods at our disposal.

In case you need a reminder:

  • PrEP, which can reduce the risk of HIV by 99% and also ensures you’re tested for HIV and STIs every 3 months.
  • People living with HIV and get on treatment early and maintain an undetectable viral load for at least 6 months cannot transmit HIV (U=U).

However, one risk to be aware of with bareback sex is the risk of STIs. Even on PrEP, you may not know you have one, or that you’ve passed it on. That’s why getting tested regularly is so important. If you do happen to get an STI, make sure you tell your partner(s) as soon as you can, so they can also get tested. And please remember that condoms do still exist and will easily solve this problem.

Your body, your choice

The next time you and your partner(s) are in the 🔥 of the moment, and your bussy or dick is itching for raw bareback fun, make sure you have the consent of all parties involved and that you are all at least using one form of prevention, and always accompany that with a regular and thorough testing regimen.

Remember: You should never have to feel pressured to participate in any form of sex if you are unsure or uncomfortable. You have the right to feel empowered to look after your own sexual health and to choose a combination prevention method that works for you, and to ultimately decide for yourself how/where/when you want to fuck.

Sometimes it’s hard to say no during sex. Remember that there are plenty of other ways you can end up busting like crazy without fucking — such as fingering/prostate play, toy play, blowjobs, rimming, and sooo much more; just browse our website, henny. So, why not suggest those options?
